As he touches Duke, Duke suddenly awakens from his coma.

The Episode;
Teaser
The hooded man rushes out of the room and down the hall trying to hide. Behind him, nurses rush to the room and Sam, Duke's wife runs from down the hall.
The hooked man watches as another hooded man, in a green hood walks into a room. He rushes towards the room, grunting he attacks the man.

Audrey and Nathan are in bed asleep. The phone rings. Nathan answers groggily, only to learn and tell Audrey, “It’s Duke, he’s awake.” They jump up to get dressed to go, Audrey very pregnant.

Act I
That morning Audrey and Nathan arrive at the hospital. In Duke’s room, they see that he is sitting up awake. Sam and Duke hold hands, lovingly.
“Duke,” Audrey says relieved he’s awake.
Duke looks at her smiling, “You got fat.”
Sam smacks him lightly, and he says ouch, not really hurt.
Audrey glares at him, “I’m pregnant.” She says not really all that annoyed.
Duke chuckles saying, “Yeah, that’s pretty apparent.” He looks her up and down.
She shakes her head annoyed, but her expression softens as she asks him, “do you remember what happened?”
Duke flashes back to his boat, the Cape Rouge, laying on the bed Duke begins to growl like a lion and grows claws. Audrey’s abdomen against him a glow comes from Audrey’s abdomen. Duke’s growling subsides. He’s relieved and falls unconscious.
The flashback concludes and back in the hospital, sitting by Duke’s bed Audrey with her hand over her pregnant belly smiles saying, “She healed you in the end.”
Duke looks on, towards her belly grateful. “She?” he asks.
Nathan nods, “It’s a girl.”
Duke points to Nathan and Audrey making the connection he asks, “Does this mean she’s also immune to the troubles.”
          Audrey nods, “Yeah.”
Nathan steps forward, “But we don’t talk about it. Mavis can’t know.”
Duke sternly says, “She won’t hear it from me.” he’s determined.
          Nathan stares at Duke grateful.
Duke alarmed says, “What about Jeremy?” He flashes back to The Cape Rouge. Duke can only see Jeremy’s tattoo on his arm as he is suffocated.
With the flashback over, back in Duke’s room, Sam explains, “He fled. You were dead when I found you.” As she explains the scene plays; Sam sees Duke dead and performs CPR. She narrates, “But I brought you back.”
Flashback over, back at the hospital Nathan says, “You shouldn’t have to worry about the tattoo man killing you.”
Duke nods relieved smiling at Nathan he says, “Does that mean you’re going to get rid of yours.”
Just as Nathan is about to respond the doctor enters with Duke’s chart everyone looks to him. He looks at the chart consulting it.
“Can I go home dock?” Duke asks eagerly.
“I see no reason why not,” He says sighing. “Stay away from operating any heavy machinery,” He says while writing in the chart and looks up to add, “including driving” putting the clipboard down by his side he also tells them “and fill out the discharge forms.”
Sam pulls the forms out of her pocket and hands them to him.
“Ah, great,” he says leaving with them.
Sam turns to Duke, looking at him lovingly, “I knew you’d be eager to get out.”
Duke nods, pulling the sheets off his bed he stands and walks towards his clothes, revealing his but from the back of his open gown.
Nathan’s annoyed. Audrey chuckling says, “Ah Duke, your gown.”
“It’s got nice air flow,” Duke says making no apologies.
Nathan groans and heads outside. Audrey pauses then realizing Duke’s going to get dressed she follows Nathan outside.

In the hospital’s hallway, Audrey walks out to Nathan waiting by the nurse’s station, “He’s changing.” She tells Nathan.
The doctor comes up to them, “Can we talk privately?” He asks nervously looking around. Nathan and Audrey nod, worried.
In the doctor’s office, Audrey and Nathan sit in front of him at his desk as he reveals, “Duke should not be standing and walking around right now.”
“People wake up from comas,” Audrey argues.
“Yes, but this is not just waking up. Nine months in a coma makes the muscles atrophy. To even walk there’s a period of physical therapy. He shouldn’t be able to walk. I wouldn’t release him, but there’s no reason to keep him here.”
“Why are you telling us?” Audrey asks.
“Because I think this has to do with a trouble. That’s what the two of you deal with, yes?
They nod. Audrey is intrigued. Nathan sighs.
The doctor reveals, “Other patients have mysteriously disappeared, with every trouble there’s a consequence yes.”
Audrey nods, Nathan next to her. “We’ll look into it.” She says. Nathan sighs, not really wanting to.
“‘Thank you,” The doctor says and gets up and walks towards the door saying, “I’m sure James and Daniel will welcome the help.”
Audrey standing with Nathen turns to the doctor at the door, asking, “James and Daniel?”
The doctor reveals, “They’re here about the missing patients.”

Down the hospital hallway, James and Daniel stand and listen to the security guard, a pudgy middle-aged man with stubble on his face looking a bit inebriated, “We didn’t see anything out of the ordinary.” He says, “They were just gone.”
James asks about the security footage. The hospital administrator, a middle-aged woman comes up to them. Standing next to the guard reveals it’s the first thing they looked at this morning and they didn’t find anything. It doesn’t catch everything in the hospital; we keep having to fund medical issues instead of technology updates.”
Daniel nods, “We’ll do things the old fashion way then.” Daniel says being understanding. The woman smiles at him pleased. James wonders if there could be some connection. Then Daniel asks, “Could we have the footage.
The administrator agrees, saying, “Of course.” James sighs, realizing the connection is gone, Daniel ruined it.
Daniel asks to talk to the nurses on duty last night. The Administrator agrees.

As they stand in front of an empty room a nurse explains to Daniel and James how the patient was just gone, “but he was on a ventilator.”

In front of another room, another nurse explains to them that Grace was in a car accident, wasn’t going to wake up, poor girl, inquiring if they think someone is stealing bodies for organ donation.
Daniel argues, “We have no indication that, that’s what this is about.”
The nurse bitter says, “It’s not that hard to steal a body from here. You’ve met Willie, the security guard.”
          James nods understanding.
Daniel says, “We’ll be looking into all possible leads.”
James adds, “We’ll contact you if we have any other questions.” He says as Audrey and Nathan approach. He looks at them, annoyed.

At the police station in Chief Dwight’s office, Audrey, Nathan, Daniel, and James stand looking to Dwight who reiterates, “This is Daniel and James’ case.”
Audrey says, “Doctor Paul thinks Duke waking up has something to do with these patients disappearing.”
“That’s not likely; there would have been some evidence that they simply disappeared,” Daniel argues says.
“How do you know?” Audrey challenges him.
Daniel stands up tall, “because I know Mavis. A heap of dust in an empty room is more powerful than an empty room. But thank you for the information about Duke.” Daniel says as if antagonistic towards her.
Audrey hurt by his antagonistic tone says, “Dad.”
Turning to her Daniel says, “This is our case, Audrey.” He’s stern.
“I assigned it to them it’s theirs,” Dwight says, backing Daniel and James up.
Audrey points to them, “They’re obviously not handling it very well” he says, “since Dr. Paul had to come to us.” Annoyance is in her voice.
“That’s because you’re a celebrity in this town everyone loves you.” James complains, “We can handle the troubles too. We have in the past.”
Dwight backs them up saying, “I have my faith in them. You’re supposed to be on desk duty, Audrey.”
Looking to Audrey Nathan says, “Maybe we should just let them.”
Audrey glares at him and shuffles out glaring at her father, Daniel.
Daniel follows her into the main room of the police station, “You can assist from here?” he pleads with Audrey to be okay. “The case is big enough. We split up the time. James has a date tonight. Come in later so he can go.”
“That’s sounds great.” Nathan says and looks to Audrey. Frustrated she nods in agreement.
Dwight sighs saying, “Good.” And he walks back towards his office as Audrey and Nathan walk out.
Daniel turns to James, “if we solve this case by tonight, they won’t have to do any work and if not you can go on your date.”
James smiles but is still annoyed saying, “If they get their claws into this they’ll take it from us. It’s like they’re the stars of a TV show or something.”

Outside Dwight’s office in the main room of the station, Audrey leads Nathan, “Let’s go to Grace’s house first.”
          “Audrey.” Nathan begins to object.
Audrey says, “You didn’t actually think we’re going to wait for tonight to investigate.” As Audrey walks ahead of him, he sighs, gathers himself and then follows.

That day, at the dock parking lot as Sam and Duke get out of the truck Sam looking at her phone reveals, “Audrey and Nathan got called to an investigation. Abe has an interview in Arizona, won’t be back till later this week. I told him to stay for it. He could see you when he gets back.”
Duke nods looking down seemingly hurt. Out of the corner of his eyes sees a figure that looks like a zombie. But when Duke turns to look, nothing there.
Sam takes his arm and asks, “You alright?”
          “Yeah.” He says unsure.
“The boat’s the same,” Sam says then bites her lip, “Well maybe not clean.” Again Duke thinks he sees a zombie but he looks and no one is there. Turning to Sam he says, “That’s okay.”

Act II
Audrey and Nathan sit in the family room of the girl. The father in front of them, looks down forlorn, guilt all over his face, “I told Grace the night of her car accident that if she didn’t come home by curfew she shouldn’t come home at all. I should have told her to drive safely.” He looks up to Nathan and Audrey, “You’ll find her.” The father pleads.
Audrey look to him sympathetically, “You haven’t seen her? Audrey asks.
He shakes his head, so Nathan asks, “No one has contacted you about a ransom?”
He shakes his head, “If they did I’d do what I could.”
Audrey asks, “What was her blood type? I could ask the hospital but…”
The father responds, “She was A+.”
Audrey thanks the father as she gets up. Nathan follows taking her lead.

Outside the girl’s house, as Audrey and Nathan walk to the truck, Nathan asks, “What was that? Why did you ask about blood type?”
“The doctor made me think that maybe Duke took her parts, but if that’s the case, they’d have to have the same blood type. Duke is AB-. We’ll have to find another theory.” Audrey says as she climbs into the truck.
“Unless he’s become some freak of nature,” Nathan says and climbs into the truck. Inside the truck, Nathan says, “You know more…than he already is.”

On the Cape Rouge sitting at the kitchen table, as Duke gobbles up the last of the rare steak on his plate Sam takes it to the sink and rinses it. “That was great,” Duke says wiping his face and putting his napkin on the table. Duke looks at his legs; they feel a little stiff to him.
“Are you alright?” Sam asks worriedly.
“Yeah, just a little sore I guess.” He sighs. She walks to him and puts her hand on his. He pulls away, cold to her.
“What’s wrong?” She asks.
Duke stands from the table forlorn. He sighs, “The first time we ever slept together you admitted that sex was your favorite sin….Nine months is a long time.”
Tears stream down her cheeks.
“We agreed not to lie to each other.” Duke urges, “What happened when I was in a coma?” He asks.
She wipes the tears off her face nodding, knowing he had to ask. “There was one night Abe and I got a little drunk and we ah…”
Duke tenses and nods taking her into a hug forgiving but not letting go completely as his actions aren’t entirely romantic, “I figured, nine months is a long time for you.”
Sam pushes him away and looks him straight in the eyes, “Duke, I’m messing with you. Nothing happened, especially with Abe.” She shivers at the thought making a disgusted face.
Duke laughs, knowing he can trust her.
Sam leaning against him her arms around him says, “I slept in the hospital most nights by your bedside. Dreamed about us. We’ve made some great memories for me to fall back on.”
Duke looks to her and smiles, “Yeah.” He says pulling her in romantically. “Want to makes some more.”
“I’ve been waiting for you to ask,” Sam says as she kisses him deeply.

          At the high school, as a bell rings and students bustle out of classrooms opening and closing their lockers in the hall, James and Daniel are interviewing a 15-year-old boy;
“I haven’t seen my dad. He’s been in the hospital for a long time, doesn’t even know me.”
“When did you last visit him?” James asks.
The boys sighs, “Like eight years ago. My mom got remarried before my dad even went into the coma, so I have a dad. He’s gone as far as I’m concerned.”
          James nods, “Okay.”
“Let us know if you see him,” Daniel says.
The boy shrugs and walks away implying he will but think he’ll never have to.
Daniel walks away with James and sighing says, “Poor dad, if he’s around somewhere. That’s got to break his heart. You’re kid not even knowing you.”
“Like you and Audrey.” James assumes.
Daniel nods, “Yeah, but that all worked itself out.”
“If we ever find him, maybe this will work itself out too.” James hopes and leads Daniel back to the parking lot.

At the grocery store, mom and pop shops, Daniel and James ask the people if they have seen Grace or Harry Fray, showing pictures of the missing people. No one has seen either Grace or Harry Fray.
Daniel and James step out of the bank, Harry hasn’t touched his money, and neither has Grace.

At Audrey and Nathan’s house, Audrey and Nathan both make phone calls to see if anyone has seen Grace. No one seems to have seen her.
At the police station, Daniel and James both make phone calls to see if anyone has seen Harry Fray. No one seems to have seen him.

At Audrey and Nathan’s house, Audrey and Nathan head out to see if Grace is in her favorite haunts.
Audrey checks at the ice cream place. The boutiques. No one’s seen her.
Nathan walks over to the hardware store. He talks to her boyfriend, who works there. He hasn’t seen her.

At the police station, Daniel and James are at a dead end, they don’t know what to do. Daniel suggests James go out on his date saying “there’s nothing we can do tonight, go on your date.”
James groans as he sees Audrey and Nathan arrive nods, “I really don’t want them to steal the case.”

At the Gull, James walks inside wearing a nice fresh shirt and a blazer. He meets the tattoo receptionist with dark hair and tattoos on her arms, “Lyla.” He calls her and they greet each other awkwardly; he kisses her on the cheek as she moves in for a hug. They get a table for two.
Later, while eating as she finishes up a story about a tattoo design she says, “you don’t seem to be listening.” He tells her about the kid, his dad is missing, and he hasn’t really had a relationship with him, “he has his step dad, but it’s not the same thing.”
When Lyla asks if James remembers his adoptive father, James shakes his head, “I don’t remember anything. Audrey and Nathan are all I have. They don’t really act as parents.”
Lyla points out that his adopted parents must have done something right because he turned out great and suggests he might want to learn more about them.
James nods, “Yeah, I think I will. Sorry, you were talking about the flower.”
She starts up on the design story again, just as she does people start screaming from outside. A figure runs limping across the patio grunting and skin falling from his face. James rushes outside. As James rushes out the front door, he sees a man limping with skin falling off his face. The man limps through the parking lot but it’s is jammed, closing him in. Cautiously approaching James puts up his hand, as if offering it and says, “We can help you.”
Lyla comes up behind him and seeing her James holds her back.
Just then the bartender comes out with a shotgun and shoots at him, the limping man scurries away. James turns to the bartender upset and grabs the gun from him.
Lyla asks, “What was that?”
Act III
In the dark of night, Audrey and Nathan burst below Duke’s boat, “Duke! Duke” Audrey calls out, nervous about him. Nathan watches her worried she’ll fall down the ladder, her pregnant belly makes her lopsided. Waddling down the ladder, she pounds on the bedroom door calling out for Duke.
Duke opens the door to the bedroom; a pillow held up to cover the lower half of his naked body, “What?” He says annoyed, squinting in the light.
“You’re okay.” Audrey sighs relieved panting out of breath.
Sam opens the door wider, a sheet covering her naked body, “What happened?”
“There was a Zombie sighting. I was worried.” Directing the question towards Sam Audrey asks, “Duke has been here all night?” implying the answer to be yes.
Sam certain of her response says, “Yeah, all night.” She looks to him biting her lip wanting more from him she runs her hand against his back. Duke looks to her smitten.
Nathan says, “Ew.” Grossed-out by the affectionate glance between them. He looks to Audrey, “We should go.”
“If it wasn’t him. Who was it?” Audrey asks looking up to Nathan.

In the Police Station James stands confidently, “It was Harry Fray, the man we’ve been looking for.”
Dwight standing with James, as Daniel is there beside him says, “You can’t be sure of that.”
James begins to argue, “People have risen from the dead, and now there’s a Zombie out there. It’s not a huge leap to say it’s probably the dead people.”
Audrey and Nathan enter as Audrey announces, “There’s been Zombie’s in Haven before.” As they all turn to her surprised, she says, “I was there in 1928, when I was Helena, the piano teacher.” She explains and flashes back. To a dim lit parlor in 1928. Audrey, wearing a 1920s dress, her hair in a bun startles watching a Zombie, a man with skin peeling off his face grunting at her. Audrey, as Helena stands in the parlor alarmed. She quickly gets her wits about her. But just as she’s about to approach the Zombie, men burst into the room and press him back.
“Stop” Helena yells. But Quintin, a young man shoots the Zombie in the head dead.
As she watches the dead man on the ground, mourning him, Quintin comes over and asks her, “Helena, are you alright?”

In the Police Station, Audrey turns to Nathan, Daniel, and James saying “He was killed. But before he died, before we even saw him there was an accident people who should have died were alright. Dr. Leroy Shane was the first; a beam hit him. We identified him as the Zombie. I always wondered if it was connected.”
          “Duke?” Dwight asks, worried.
Audrey shakes her head saying, “He’s fine. He’s with Sam.”
Nathan nods somberly saying, “We were just there.” acknowledging the somberness of the room,
“Shane” Daniel says recalling something, “There was a Wei Shane. He was a doctor too, a horrible man always experimenting trying to bring people back from the dead and losing a little bit of his humanity with every experiment. Shortly before he died people started coming back from near death. We thought it was Mavis. Honestly the people didn’t care. They were happy to have their family members back.”
Nathan asks, “How did he die?”
Daniel reveals, “Lab accident but I never really thought that’s what it was, his wife was very distressed for a while before his death. I thought he had a fever or something and she didn’t want to tell anyone for fear of being shunned.”
“You think he was troubled?” Nathan asks.
Daniel shakes his head, “I don’t know.”
“If they both were in this Zombie way, let’s look at who their descendants are,” James suggests determined to do it.
“In the morning?” Nathan pleads gesturing towards a pregnant Audrey.
Daniel nods, “Yes, in the morning.”

In the morning in Haven, the day is clear and bright looking over the town in Maine. Duke’s boat, the Cape Rouge is docked. There are voices coming from it.

On the Cape Rough Sam and Duke are dressed and eating breakfast. Sam sits on the counter, as Duke stands against the sink, chewing. “You’re sure you have to go to work.” Duke says finishing up his bite.
“Yes,” Sam says and lets out a sad sigh as she reaches out to Duke caressing his neck, “Last night was amazing.”
Duke smiles confident of himself he stands over by her kissing her, caressing her face. She pulls away, “I have to get to the church and you probably should check on The Gull.”
“Oh, right.” Duke says as if he just remembered he owned “The Gull” restaurant. He sighs, “Yeah, I’ll head down there.” He says grabbing his keys.
“Wait,” Sam says leaping from the counter she gives him one last deep kiss before he leaves.

At the Harold that day, Vince and Dave are at their desks help Audrey, Nathan, James, and Daniel find out who the living Shanes are. “Shane’s,” Vince says.
Dave looking at the birth records explains “Wei only had one son, which leads directly to Leroy and then Leroy had two but one died in the war, the other had a son, and he had two sons.” Dave says.
Vince reading over his shoulder says, “A Jack and Thomas Shane.” James sits down at Vince’s computer and types away in the background.
Nathan looks to Audrey, Daniel, Vince, and Dave, “If one of them is the Zombie at the Gull that means…the people from the hospital, Grace, and Harry should be alive.” Audrey nods and Nathan says, “But where are they?”
“Brains to go, for food?” Dave offers as a suggestion.
“Brains?” Vince argues, “What kind of a suggestion is that?” He says annoyed.
While the brothers argue, Daniel mentions, “We should find them.”
“You go find Jack; we’ll look for Thomas.” Audrey offers James and Daniel.
Daniel nods, nodding not only to the suggestion but her willingness to share rather than take over.

Audrey and Nathan knock on the door of Thomas Shane’s house. James and Daniel knock on the door of Jack’s place. While a pregnant young woman answers The Thomas Shane residence, Daniel and James get no answer. Audrey and Nathan are invited in by the pregnant woman. James and Daniel are forced to look around through the windows.
Inside Thomas Shane’s house, Audrey and Nathan sit with the pregnant woman, finding out she’s his wife and she hasn’t seen her husband in over 24 hours.

Duke at the Gull says hello working with the place bustling with people. He makes some changes to the menu. Watching he takes deep sighs, “Life hasn’t changed much.” There’s a beeping of a truck backing up.
“Delivery,” Jimmie says his arms full of dirty dishes.
Duke puts his hand on Jimmie’s shoulder, “I’ll get it.” Duke says and heads outside, out the back, where the truck is backing in. The driver is pleased to see him and welcomes him back. Duke signs for it and thanks him then helps unload.

Back at the station that night James and Daniel relay that Jack hasn’t been to his place either in days, they’d found dishes left out with mold on them. Neither of the men have any transactions on their credit cards, there’s no trace of them.
Nathan’s irritated that a husband would do that to his pregnant wife.
Daniel’s shocked to learn Thomas’s wife is pregnant and pleased that Nathan wouldn’t do that to Audrey.
Sitting up from her desk, Audrey turns to Nathan, “I guess we should go.”
Nathan nods and they both begin to gather their coats.
“You’re just going to go.” James complains annoyed.
“There’s nothing more to do tonight.” Nathan explains, “There’s no leads, you can’t let this take over your life or it will consume you. These things have a way of sorting themselves out.”
Audrey explains, “Duke’s welcome back dinner is tonight.”

The sun sets over Haven and at the Gull James, Daniel, Audrey, Dave, Vince, Dwight, and Abe are all at Duke’s welcome back dinner. Duke enters with Sam and is surprised and impressed. He even hugs his brother Abe, glad he’s there.
He sits with Sam and Audrey at his sides. As Sam directs the servers, Audrey watches Duke who is less than enthusiastic about being back. She takes his hand, “Are you alright?”
Panting disturbed, he says, “Life hasn’t changed much. The world still turns whether you’re in it or not.”
Audrey nods understanding, “Sam missed you.”
Duke looks to her lovingly, but there’s still an emptiness in his eyes, “Yeah, she is amazing. I’m a lucky man.” Overwhelmed he gets up from the table telling everyone to eat, “I’m just going to use the facilities.”
He heads into the back where the restrooms are but passes them and heads outside taking deep breaths.
Back in the Gull Sam talks to Audrey, “Is he alright?” she asks Audrey.
Audrey whispers to her, “I think he’s having a hard time adjusting.”
          Sam nods understanding.
Suddenly outside as Duke breaths heavily, having a panic attack, he’s attacked by the Zombie and knocked out.

Act IV
Duke wakes up in a room of a house that looks like it’s falling apart. He gets up from the ground and sees pictures of his brother Abe and himself on the wall, and pictures of others. Duke looks around tries to find a door or window open, but everything is locked up tight. Then he hears a noise someone enters from behind him. It’s the Zombie in the blue jacket, who closes the door behind him. Duke is trapped with him.
Duke looks up to him, “Let me go. I won’t tell anyone about this. You can go about your life.”
The Zombie grunts. He points to a word written on the wall in shaky writing, “Help.”
“Help?” Duke asks, willing. “With what?”
He points to a picture of Abe.
“Abe, you want Abe?” Duke asks, “You’re not getting Abe. I may not have the best relationship with my brother, but he’s my brother.”
The Zombie shakes his head. He points to the picture of Abe then beats on his chest and points to a picture of a young Jack Shane. He gently points to himself and then a picture of Thomas Shane next to Jack Shane. They look very much alike.”
“I don’t understand,” Duke says shaking his head.
Frustrated the man grunts and rushes over to the picture of Thomas, next to the picture of Abe. He points to Duke, then he points to Abe. Then to himself and then to Jack. The Zombie is Jack Shane.
“You’re brother?” Duke asks.
The man nods happily. He then points to Duke and beating at the air he points to himself. Duke looks to him not understanding. The man is frustrated.

At the Gull, everyone has their food, and Duke is nowhere to be found. Sam turns to Audrey, “I know he’s having trouble, but I’m worried about Duke.”
Nathan nods, “Yeah. Let’s go find him.”
Audrey nods and the three of them go out the way Duke went. James curious follows them.

Outside the Gull Audrey, Sam, and Nathan are looking for Duke. Seeing blood drops on the ground, Audrey asks them to stop and holds them back from stepping on them. She flashes back to;

In the same house in the 1920s, Audrey flashes back to the night the Zombie died and remembers there were blood spots on the carpet back then.

Outside the Gull Audrey panicked says, “No, one of the Shane Brothers, the Zombie. He was here last night for Duke.” She turns to Nathan as if simply realizing the truth of this.
James at the back exit of the Gull declares annoyed, “You knew Duke was involved that’s why you came.”
“All this started with Duke waking up; then the Zombie was at the Gull. He wants him for something.”
“But what?” Sam asks.

Duke trapped in the parlor of a condemned house is with the Zombie. He points to a picture of the body part farmer, who Duke killed. Then he points to himself. He points to the picture of the people in the hospital, saved from the attack of the body part farmer, and then to his brother. Duke steps back, “You want to me to kill you to save your brother.”
The man nods vigorously.
Duke shakes his head, “I can’t.” The Zombie pounds his foot upset. “I don’t have my trouble anymore. But I can help you. Nathan-”
Duke is cut off as the Zombie growls angrily shaking his head.
But Duke yells, “My brother Abe; he still has his trouble. He’s at the Gull at dinner with them. My phone…let me text him.”

At the Gull, Abe is looking at his phone scrolling down as Dave and Vince are worried about Duke wondering if he’s alright. Arguing about whether he’s tough or not. As a message comes through to Abe’s phone, it dings, and Dave looks over his shoulder at the screen. Abe excuses himself putting his phone in his pocket.

At the condemned house the Zombie stands over Duke, who holds his phone, “He’s coming.” Duke says. The Zombie smacks the phone out of his hand and smashes it with his foot. He leaves the room locking Duke inside. “Hey!” Duke says annoyed, “I’m helping you.”

At the Gull, as Abe leaves Audrey, Nathan, Sam, and James walk back inside. Vince and Dave can tell that something is wrong. Audrey reveals that Duke is missing. Dave reveals that he saw Abe got a text from him, asked him to meet at an address. Eagerly they look to Dave.

Duke sitting in the parlor of the condemned house is annoyed. He looks around the room shuffling through drawers and finds a notebook. Curious he opens it and begins to read. “Oh my gosh.” He says and continues reading.

In the foyer of the house Abe walks inside, “Duke?” he calls reaching for a gun in the back of his pants.

Act V
Inside the condemned house in the foyer, Abe, gun drawn calls for Duke. Trapped in the parlor Duke hears his name called but he’s engrossed in the notebook. He turns to answer but hears voices, “Abe it’s me.” Nathan’s voice says.
In the foyer, Abe has his gun pointed at Nathan, with Daniel and James behind him. Abe lowers the gun.
“What are you doing here?” Nathan asks Abe as Audrey waddles into the room.
Duke in the parlor stays very quiet simply listening as he clutches the notebook.
In the back room the Zombie, Jack listens to Abe explain that Duke texted him. As he hears Nathan say, “One of the Shane brother’s has him.” Jack is upset especially when Daniel says, “Let us handle this.”
But in the foyer, Abe argues saying, “He’s my brother. We may not be close, but he’s still my brother.”
The Zombie, Jack in the back room listening intently hears James casually say, “Why don’t you look upstairs we’ll split up down here.” Jack takes a deep sigh and walks up the back stairs.
In the foyer, James gestures for Sam to follow Abe. She does.
“We’ll go this way.” James gestures to the left. Daniel goes with him, and James whispers to him, “Who’s going to carry Duke upstairs.”
Daniel chuckles as he looks around alert.
With James and Daniel off to the left Audrey and Nathan walk to the right. Audrey sighs heavily. “What is it?” Nathan asks as they are looking down the hallway towards the kitchen his gun drawn.
“This is Detmire Manor. It’s where Helena stayed, where Leroy Shane was killed by Quintin Detmire, it’s a strange place for him to be.”
Nathan nods in agreement but continues the search.
In the parlor Duke listening through the door whispers, “Nathan, Audrey?”
Hearing Duke Nathan opens the door. They walk into the parlor. Behind them the door closes Audrey catches a glimpse of a face of a young man and flashes back to Quintin Detmire, who killed the Zombie in 1928.
“Quintin!” Audrey calls out, “Detmire!” she says knowing Quintin’s not alive, “What are you doing?”
From the other side of the door, Landon yells, “My family owes them a debt!”
“A debt?” She asks, “What debt? We may be able to help you.” Just then Audrey leans over in pain, and her water breaks.
Duke looking and pointing says, “She’s…”
“You have to let us out of here!” Nathan yells. Audrey with Duke’s help sits down. She thanks him saying, “I thought they were farther apart.”
“You were in contractions this whole time,” Nathan says annoyed.
Audrey looks up to him guilty, indicating yes, “Duke was missing.”
Duke holding the notebook says, “I think I may know what debt he was talking about. Jack wrote a journal.” He hands it to Nathan and explains as Nathan looks through it, “Quintin’s wife was one of those in the accident in 1928, who recovered.”
          Audrey nods breathing heavily.
“The Shane’s raise people from near death but in doing so they take on death themselves.”
          “The walking dead,” Nathan says.
“Quintin killed Leroy, Jack’s grandfather. For generations, the Detmire’s have been their companions through the process of healing as they lose fingers and finally their tongue. Jack is dying because of his trouble. He wanted me to kill him to save his brother.”
“You explained I could heal him,” Nathan says.
“I tried, but he doesn’t seem to like you very much.” Duke with a sarcastic tone says, ‘I can’t imagine why.’
“We need to get Audrey out of here,” Nathan says.
Just then they hear a shot. A bloodied bullet falls through the floor and hits Duke.

A quick rewind shows what’s happened when Sam and Abe walk up the stairs. Upstairs the Zombie, Jack, looks on weary of Sam. Detmire stands next to Jack. He tells Jack that he won’t let Audrey get hurt. Jack nods and points with his head for him to go downstairs. Jack enters a bedroom.

Jack, enters the bedroom. Tied to a chair unconscious is Tom, duck-tape covers his mouth. He looks mostly normal, yet he’s pale, and his veins are green. Jack using his stump of a hand lifts a towel off the ground and holds it up to his brother’s nose. He awakens.

In the upstairs hallway Sam opens another bedroom door, Abe holds his gun out searching it. They find it clear. The door slams against the wall and Sam says, “It’s all clear.”

Inside the occupied bedroom Thomas hearing, Sam’s voice starts to scream, muffled under the duck-tape.

In the hallway Sam turns to the noise, “Duke!” she calls out turning towards the bedroom. Sam enters the bedroom to find Tom, Abe follows behind her. She goes to Tom and pulls the duck-tape from his wrists which tie him to the chair. He pulls the duct tape from his mouth, “Watch out.” he says. Jack behind them hides behind the door. Abe clumsily pulls out his gun and shoots him at a steep angle. The bullet goes through the floor down into Duke.

In the pallor below Duke’s hit with the bullet.
“Duke” Audrey yells still huffing in labor. Duke is bleeding.
“I’m okay,” Duke says holding his shoulder, and suddenly his eyes turn silver. He gasps with surprise, quickly gets up shoving his way through the door, breaking it down. Duke, now outside the parlor hears Sam yell, “Help!” He rushes up to her.

Inside the parlor, Audrey seated breathing heavily tells Nathan to go, help Duke. Nathan glances back as he leaves.

Inside the bedroom upstairs Jack is on the ground blood pooling around him, he’s bleeding to death. Daniel calls for an ambulance as James stands back. Sam holds Jack’s stump of a hand.
Duke goes down to him, touching Jack’s blood his eyes turn silver Sam gasps but Duke ignores it as he asks Jack, “Why? You didn’t have to do this? Nathan could have healed both of you.”
Jack shakes his head not wanting that. He dies just as Nathan walks in with Tom, his brother looking over grieved.
After a somber moment, Nathan exclaims, “Audrey?” realizing she’s downstairs in labor.
Worried about his daughter Daniel demands to know, “What happened?”
“She’s into labor,” Duke says.
Everyone looks around excited.

At the Gull sitting with Daniel, James, Sam, Tom, Abe, and Duke who’s wound is bandaged, Sam looks annoyed. Duke chuckles at her grumpy face. “Why would you think she’d let you in the delivery room?”
          Sam smirks knowing he’s right.
Swallowing a sip of beer, “Can we talk about something else?” James pleads.
Daniel leans in, “Your trouble.” He says to Tom, “May be the inspiration for Frankenstein. Mavis was troubling in Europe before she came to Haven.”
Tom nods, “It’s gone now.” He sighs with regret and relief.
          Abe walks away upset.
Sam rubs Duke’s healthy shoulder urging him, “Maybe you should go and talk to him.”
          Duke walks over.
Leaning against a post, Abe drinks upset. Duke joins him saying, “He wanted you to kill him.” Duke assures Abe.
Abe nods, but tense; he’s not okay with what happened, “Yeah. I’ve killed many troubled, as you know. And I deliberate on it to make sure it’s the right thing. I just never know if it’s the right thing. It never feels right. I just…how can I not when these troubled hurt people? How do you do it?”
“Trust, there’s something better…Let Nathan do all the heavy lifting.”
Abe chuckles, “Jack wanted to relieve the burden of the trouble from his brother. His brother was going to use it whether it killed him or not to help people….I don’t want this trouble anymore.”
          “Let Nathan heal you.”
“Can he even, he didn’t heal you.”
“He did, just not that trouble.”
“I suppose I should give it a shot before I leave Haven,” Abe says.
          “You’re leaving?” Duke questions.
“I got a job in Arizona.”
          Duke’s glad for him.
“I’m not going to be able to talk you into leaving am I?”
Duke looks back to Sam sitting with Daniel, James, and Tom, “Sam’s kind of committed to this place and I’m committed to her.”
At the table with Sam, Daniel, James, and Tom; Sam looks to Tom grateful that he could join them on this all night wait.”
“I’m glad I could.” He says mourning his brother.
Sam puts her hand on his, “He was a good man.”
“The best.” Tom says saddened, “Thank you for letting Detmire go. He took care of my brother.”
“Better than we did, thinking he was a Zombie,” James says.
“Can I join you?” A voice says. It’s Dwight. He’s entered. They all turn to him as he sits down with them and tells them, “We found Grace and Harry, they were trying to leave town. They’re back with their families.”
“I’m glad they’re alright.” Tom says, “They’re the only people I could help.”
“You could help me,” Dwight says, “Your wife has been calling every hour.”
Tom gets up, “Oh, yeah I should ah…” he exits flustered knowing he’s in trouble when he gets home.
Sam nods chuckling.
Hours pass as everyone starts to look more haggard and the sun begins to rise. As Sam lays asleep hunched over the table their phones begin to beep, it’s a text.

At the hospital, Nathan and Audrey narrate as they hold the baby in the hospital, Audrey has given birth to a beautiful, healthy baby girl, “Danielle, Jackie, Wournos.” “Danielle” in honor of Audrey’s father, and “Jackie” in honor of Jack Shane.

At the Gull, Daniel leans over to the group, “We all need to be very careful from here on. No one can know that she heals the troubles and is immune. If Mavis knew we don’t know what she would do to her.”

Jimmie outside the Gull overhears Daniel speak.
In the cave, Jimmie walks inside and approaches Mavis, “Mavis I have some interesting information for you.
“Yes, Jimmie, my faithful follower, what have you got us?”
