In the small town of Haven it's late afternoon. Detectives Audrey and Nathan are walking down the street as people with swim gear walk and drive by in droves. They watch curiously--what is going on? They run into Vince and Dave, two older gentlemen, brothers who own the local newspaper. Vince and Dave tell Audrey and Nathan them that that new resort was bought and finished, they did a rush job on it and it’s now open. They inform Audrey and Nathan that the real-estate market in Haven has been a great sellers’ market recently the first time in the history of the town people are coming in droves and they should know...”because they’re in the newspaper business”, they add on suspiciously. Vince leans in and says, “I think it has to do with a certain attraction.” He says and hints at Nathan and his ability to heal people of the troubles. Audrey, critically asks Vince if he's been telling people. He says, “Oh no, not about Nathan specifically but there’s hope in Haven. The guard has already believed that and it’s truer now than ever.” Dave argues, “Not that I ever knew what was true for the guard.” Audrey and Nathan get away as Vince and Dave argue, which is normal for the brothers. They agree to enjoy their day off.
A lot of people come to the resort, where a fountain of water flows in the lobby. A little girl who is barely tall enough to reach the water plays in it and a little boy runs his boats in it. A group of older people walk by, one in his 50s walks by as the baggage cart goes by. The parents call the kids away and when the baggage cart has passed and the kids leave and the fountain’s water is frozen solid, the drops frozen midair. A family with a little three year old girl walks through, see the fountain and the mom, the same woman from the beginning, thinks it’s cool, “don’t you think Gene.” The mom says to her little girl.
Act I
At night at the Gull Resturant on the dock, Audrey and Nathan, Sam and Duke are all laughing at a double date. Everyone is laughing but Duke who is trying to defend himself, “In my defense, I was a pretty cool pirate even if the little girl made me fall off a balcony.” Sam takes his arm and says, “I’m sure you were a cool pirate.” Duke complains about being sore, says he must have pulled something working on the boat. Nathan makes a snide remark that he’s “pulling something a lot.” Audrey interrupts the two men bickering mentioning the time she got Duke to do whatever she said, to fool a troubled person who could anticipate what someone was going to think before they think it and "I got him to strip and then admit to two grown men he needed a hug.” Sam, Nathan, and Audrey burst out laughing. Duke fights back with “Well I got this picture of Nathan dancing drunk.” He shows it to Sam. “When we had our high school reunion one of our classmates turned him into his high school self.” Nathan says as payback. Sam smiles, “yeah, he was really cute.” They look at her like how does she know, “I’ve seen his yearbook.” She says as she takes the last sip of wine. Nathan looks to Duke, “You’ve really had everything happen to you, you’ve been made young, old, had a kid in 72 hours.” Everyone is silent. Audrey chides Nathan and he’s oblivious. Sam looks to Duke, “You have a child?” Duke without fear of reprisal nods, “A daughter?” Audrey leans in to explain, “Duke was seduced by a troubled woman who seduces men and gives birth in a couple days.” Sam turns to her, “I know Duke had a life before me. I had a life before him too.” Sam turns to Duke, “Where is she, do you get to see her?” He shakes his head saddened, “No…” Audrey explains, “She was sucking the life out of him, that’s why he was aging. He can’t ever see her.” Duke looks to Sam, “I don’t like to think about it.” She nods, “Yeah.” under the table she takes his hand in hers. She turns to Audrey and Nathan, “So I heard that James is trying to solve the Colorado kid murder.” Audrey nods and Nathan says, “We’re a little worried he’ll figure out he was the Colorado kid.” Sam says, “As such he might actually be the only one who can solve it.”
James works at night trying to solve the Colorado kid murder as he look through files of information, coroner notes, and police reports where people simply said they didn’t remember anything.
Audrey, Nathan, Duke, and Sam get up from the table and put their sweaters back on as they get ready to leave the restaurant, “So have fun on your boat trip tomorrow.” Audrey says to Duke and Sam. Sam thanks her. “It was a great idea from Duke.” Sam says. Nathan comments, “Well, there’s nothing he loves more than his boat.” Sam throws in a “Home is where the heart is.” To counteract Nathan’s snide remark which Duke says “ahah” to Nathan, mocking him. Audrey says she’s going to go to the restroom and heads that way. Nathan wants to talk to Sam. Duke says he’s going to go check on things, he’s got to make the place bring in profit asks Sam to say goodbye before she leaves. She nods. Nathan asks why he has to make the place profitable and Sam says, “He’s out of the smuggling game. Said they were a bad element.” Nathan’s impressed Sam has managed to do the impossible. She says Duke did it himself and asks what he wanted to talk to her about. Nathan pulls out a ring gold with diamonds along the band, he’s going to ask Audrey to marry him and wants her advice since Audrey and her are friends. Sam tells him that no matter how he asks her she’ll say yes, just remember who you are and who she is, don’t do anything that doesn’t seem like ya’lls thing.” Nathan thanks her and puts the ring back into his pocket.
The next morning Sam and Duke are kissing, as they sit the boat rocks underneath them, “This is nice.” She says, between kisses and between another kiss says, “Maybe we should actually leave the dock.” They haven’t left the dock yet. Duke gets up still sore, “right, I promised to take you on a bona fide voyage.” Sam sits back, “well at least a three hour tour.” Duke stares at her shocked, “You don’t say that. Why would you say that?” She asks why he’s so freaked out by a TV show reference and he says “you never know what troubles are out there.” “Okay, we’ll just do an episode of the Love Boat.” Duke nods, “that’s more like it.” He starts the boat and it takes off from the dock as Sam sits on the deck and enjoys the ride.
At the resort Dwight goes up to the front desk, they called because of a prank. Someone has filled their fountain and now their pool with ice, some sort of chemical reaction the manager assumes. The manager talks about how he’d heard this town was strange, genius teenagers pulling pranks is what he assumes it is. Dwight doesn’t set him straight and says he’ll start an investigation, asks for a list of all the people staying there. James comes in late, apologizes. People are staring as the indoor pool, which is frozen over. When Dwight and James are alone, taking samples James whispers about how this is a trouble. Dwight says, “Yep, we’ll get Audrey and Nathan over right away.” And some of the people in the crowd overhear.
At the helm Sam repeats what Duke taught her about the boat. She has gotten some wrong, which he corrects. She asks if it has “autopiolet.” He chuckles, “yeah, it guides itself.” As he walks he stumbles and falls against her, “You alright?” she asks. He shakes it off, “Yeah. Just sore I guess.” His hip seems to bother him. Close together she looks up at him and kisses him deeply. They kiss deeply and she presses against him. He pulls away, “We should stop.” She stares at him, “You’re serious?” He nods, “Sam, I love you. I don’t want to do anything to ruin this.” “And you’re not desperate?” She asks skeptical. Duke scoffs, “No. I’ve gone without before. It’s really not that big of a deal. It actually makes me appreciate all the little things.” He says and touches her cheek and smiles. She smiles. “Oh dang it.” She says. He laughs, “Oh, you took me out here to have your way with me.” Sam shakes her head, “No, this was your idea but who can blame a girl for trying. It is my favorite sin.” Duke smiles and then suddenly collapses. Sam catches him concerned.
Act II
Sam gets Duke into bed, “It’s just a cold,” he says. She gets him some blankets. She thinks they should go back to port and he says “no, I promised you a boat tour, I just need to get warm.” Sam argues with him but he argues back, coughing as he does. She calls him a stubborn old fart and goes to make some hot tea. In the kitchen she calls Audrey worried about him.
Audrey and Nathan are at the resort outside surrounded by frozen garden statues. The manager is convinced the frozen statutes were caused by teenage halogens, but whispers so that the guest don’t hear it. Audrey’s phone rings but after glancing at it she ignores it. It stops and then starts again, from Sam again. She tells Nathan she should take this. Audrey steps aside and talks to Sam. Sam’s worried about Duke, he’s shaking like he’s all cold. Audrey explain that might have something to do with the trouble they’re working with. Sam then says, “His hair is turning white.” Audrey understands she’s worried, as she’s talking to her a woman calls a little three year old girl (the one from the beginning) Gene. Audrey turns to look at the girl and she looks like Duke. Audrey tells Sam not to come back to Haven, but gun it as far away from Haven as they can get. Sam asks why, Audrey says “just do it”.
Audrey, after she hangs up the phone goes up to the little girl and her mother. Audrey asks, “How are you liking your stay here so far?” The mother thinks it’s wonderful, comments “who would have thought to put ice status at a beach resort, it’s so creative.” Audrey then asks, “Is your daughter adopted by any chance?” The woman is offended, “What? How do you know that?” she pulls her daughter away from her, Audrey follows and Nathan seeing the scene follows Audrey. His shield by his belt for the woman to see she complains about Audrey. “What’s going on?” Nathan asks. Audrey says to him, “I think this little girl is baby Gene.” Audrey looks to the woman, “Nathan and I were at her birth. I just heard the name and thought we’d say hi. I actually have a picture of when she was born. April 15th right.” The women confirms with a look. The woman calms down, “Oh, let me get my husband.” She calls for her husband. Nathan turns to Audrey and whispers to her, “Where’s Duke?” “He’s on his boat, I told Sam to get him out of here.” Nathan nods as the mother’s husband comes over. Audrey shows them the picture.
On the boat Duke lays in bed, asleep. He’s aged aggressively. Sam sits on a stool looking to him. She’s trying to wake him up and ask him how to speed up the boat. He wakes up and she asks him how to speed up the boat. Instead of answering her he says he feels horrible maybe they should go back to shore but Sam insists otherwise because Audrey told her to get out of town and she’s usually right about these things. He looks down at his hands and notices that he’s aging, “not again.” he says. Duke explains he’s aging like before. Sam confirms. She suspects Audrey knew, Gene, his daughter is in Haven. Duke swears he’s going to kill him. Sam asks who, “Nathan, he told me he cured Beati.” Sam asks again about the boat he insists, though she objects, that he go and do it himself. She helps him up.
After Duke speeds up the boat, he sits down exhausted. She sits with him. He says, “You must think this is just deserts for my behavior.” She shakes her head, “I don’t think anything. I’m just here for you.” He nods, “we should be out of town in a couple hours.”
Audrey and Nathan at the resort are talking to the mother of Gene and her father. “It’s such a wonderful coincidence that we came to the town were Gene was born.” Nathan and Audrey smile. “How did you hear about the resort?’ “Well, it actually just popped up on your computer screen one day. I hadn’t even opened an internet browser. We wanted to show Gene the ocean, thought about going to California and Disneyland but found it too expensive. But there was a great deal in Haven with the grand opening.” Audrey nods. As they are talking the entire ocean behind them slowly begins to freeze over. Nathan and Audrey rush to get everyone out, the hotel staff help. Nathan jumps in to get a little boy out of the water. Once they’re out the water freezes past where the ocean disappears at the horizon.
Duke’s boat, out at sea becomes surrounded by ice and jolts to a stop. It is stuck where it is, Duke breathes harder and heavier.
Act III
Audrey at the hotel announces, “It’s just a flash freeze we have those here up in Maine sometimes.” Everyone seems to believe and people are distracted by the manager handing out ice skates. Audrey and Nathan go over to the manager and talk to him privately, “We’re going to need to talk to all the guests who were outside.” The manager says, “Can you just let it go.” Nathan rushes in with a “no, someone is doing this from here and it’s getting dangerous. We have people trapped in the ice all over.” Nathan insists on talking to the people at the beach.
Dwight and James are helping stuck people around town get out of the iced ocean.
Sam confirms that Duke’s boat is not moving and so she shut down the engine. Duke’s upset so he calls Nathan.
Nathan gets the call at the resort and answers, “Are you out of town?” Nathan asks. “No, I’m trapped in the damned ice.” Duke answers upset. “You said you cured Beati.” Nathan insists, “I never said that. Beati was worried it would hurt the kids.” “Nathan, you got to help me I’m going to die if…” Duke holds onto his chest like he’s having a heart attack. Sam goes to him and doesn’t feel a heartbeat. She performs CPR and Duke comes back. She tells him he’s got to calm down or he’ll give himself a heart attack, “Let me worry about this okay.” She says. He argues. She says. “You have to trust me Duke, let me worry about it.”
Nathan goes over to Audrey and tells her, “That was Duke, he’s stuck on the boat in the ice. I have to call Beati.”
Audrey continues the interviews. She’s constantly questioned about why they need to talk to her. She says they have to put an accurate description of any strange event in the police report. The people seem to buy that.
Nathan calls Beati, Vince and Dave answer. “Why are you answering Beati’s phone?” Vince and Dave inform him that she’s out of town and they’re watching her calls. When Nathan asks for a number where she can be reached they say they don’t have one and Nathan gives them attitude, “You’re watching her place but you have no way to get in touch with her if something happened?” They realize just then that it is a little foolish but that’s the gist of it. He then asks them to tell her to call him if she calls, that it’s an emergency. Dave and Vincent promise to do so.
Audrey sees Nathan sigh and goes over to him, “You couldn’t reach her.” Nathan shakes his head, “well…” Audrey says, “The best thing we can do is find out who’s freezing over the ocean and Duke can get out of town.” Nathan agrees and starts more interviews. Audrey calls Sam.
Sam makes Duke comfortable on his bed, “Don’t you have a sermon you needed to prep?” She shakes her head, “don’t worry about it I’ll wing it.” Duke laughs, but it’s difficult for him. “Do you do that a lot?” She admits under her breath, “more than I probably should.” Her phone rings, “this might be Audrey.” She goes into the other room. Audrey informs Sam that Beati’s out of town and they can’t reach her, we’re doing what we can but we can’t promise anything.” Sam’s saddened, but thanks Audrey. Sam goes into the other room with Duke and feigns confidence, “Audrey and Nathan are taking care of it.” Duke looks to her and says, “You’re a bad liar.” Sam looks at him sympathetic. Duke says, “Maybe I should have taken you up on your offer.” She lays down beside him, “then you wouldn’t be the man I love.” He looks to Sam and says, “I love you Sam.” like he’s going to die. She suddenly pops her head up and looks to him, “Don’t say that. You’re not going to die.” Duke tells her, “Two men died before me.” Sam says, “Well, you won’t be alone.” He nods grateful, “thank you.”
As Nathan watches Gene and her mother ice skating. He tells Audrey he has an idea, he heads towards Gene. Audrey asks “what are you doing?”. “Gene’s the one connected to Duke not Beati, maybe if I cure Gene Duke will be alright.” Audrey says, “It’s worth a shot.” As they go over towards them little Gene falls on the ice. Nathan goes over to her and helps her up, “Are you alright?” Gene nods, shyly. Audrey looks to the mother, “Hi, again. Sorry to bother, Nathan just really wanted to see her. He remembers cooing at her when she was a baby.” The mother nods a little annoyed but tolerating them. Nathan looks at Gene and places his hands on her cheeks and does what he normally does to heal people. Nathan gets up and says, “thanks we’ll get out of your way now.” As they walk away Audrey and Nathan wonder if anything happened. Nathan shrugs.
Nathan and Audrey go back to interviewing people who are getting annoyed.
At the resort people are having loads of fun on the ice, skating, suddenly the ice starts to crack where a group of kids are. Parents are in a panic, Nathan and Audrey direct them to stay where they are or they might make the ice crack. The man in his 50s rushes out onto the ice despite Audrey and Nathan’s objections. They can’t follow him because they might make the ice break. He places his hand on the ice and it hardens. He tells them, “get off the ice, get off”. They do as he says. Audrey and Nathan now know it’s him and since the ice is firm they go after him saying, “sir, sir.” He runs further into the ice.
Act IV
The 50 year old man runs farther into the ice, Audrey and Nathan in pursuit. The sun beating down on them the ice begins to crack and the 50 year old man trips and falls on his back, unable to touch the ice and harden it. Audrey and Nathan tell him to stay where he is and they’ll get him off. Audrey, since she’s smaller goes out there and tells him to take her hand and they’ll pull him back. He doesn’t want to, “everything I touch turns to ice.” He says. She assures him, “I’ll be fine.” He shakes his head, “It’s better if I fall. You don’t know what it’s like to live like this, not being able to touch anything anyone.” Nathan assures him, “I can help you.” The man insists he can’t, “No, only my wife could help me.” Audrey asks him to tell him about her as she starts to crawl ready to drag him from the cracking ice. “She had a similar trouble to mine, but she burned everything up and somehow together things were normal. Whatever we touched together would remain as it was. It drew us together in the 80s when the troubles began but she’s gone, heart attack and my trouble came back. I thought there was hope in Haven but I was wrong.” Audrey, now right next to him says, “no, you weren’t Nathan can heal you, you just have to let him. Take my hand. Trust us.” She says and he looks in her eyes and takes her hand. Audrey does not turn into ice, which surprises the man and he starts to cry tears of joy.
On Duke’s boat Sam lays down with Duke, he’s old but the white is going away. She wakes him, “Duke, Duke.” He wakes up. “You’re going to be okay.” She says. He rises from the bed, “Yeah.” He feels a lot better. He turns to Sam and kisses her, “thank you.” He says his nose up against hers. “I didn’t do anything” she says, “It was Audrey and Nathan.” Duke continues, “But you were here. Thank you.” She smiles and says, “where else would I be.” Then kisses him.

The resort is trying to melt all the ice in their pool, fountains, and statues.
At the police station the ice man wishes Dwight and the others goodbye apologizing for the trouble he caused and thanking them. Nathan tells Audrey that he got in touch with Beati about the trouble being cured from her daughter and scheduled a time to talk about curing her.
Duke stands watching from behind a tree as Gene and her family pack up their car to leave. Sam comes up behind him. “She’s beautiful.” Sam says. Duke still staring at her says, “Yeah.” Sam asks, “Are you going to try to be in her life?” Duke sighs, “now that you can.” Sam adds. Duke looks down and at Sam, “No, she has a loving family that’s what’s important. But this whole thing has made me realize a few things.” Sam looks up at him waiting, listening. “I want kids.” Sam smiles, “I want to have them with you.” Sam’s smile sharpens, Duke looks to her serious, “Samantha Olivia Lewis, will you marry me?” Sam smiles, “Yes…yes.” She leans into him and kisses him deeply.
Back at Audrey’s place Audrey and Nathan talk. Audrey says, “You know someone was targeting Duke trying to kill him, someone who knew about Gene.” Nathan nods, “Yeah.” Audrey reminds Nathan, “Only a few people knew about that. Do you think we should tell him?” Nathan says no, “Not until we know who it is.”
