In the early morning on the Rouge, Duke and Sam are lying in bed a space between them. Sam’s lip is well on its way to healing. Duke wakes and puts his arm around her, hugging her up close enticing her to something more. Sam pulls away,

“Duke” she says urging him to stop. She gets out of bed saying, “I should get up.”

Duke, left longing for her, looks to her as she gets dressed, “Sam I know I messed up but it’s been weeks….if you’re staying you can’t keep punishing me.”

Sam putting on her clothes sighs, “I’m not trying to punish you. Really, it has nothing to do with that. I just need time, that’s all.”

Duke steps out of bed grumpy, “I remember when it used to be your favorite sin.” He pulls the sheets hard over the bed to make it. The picture then turns to a monitor.

INT. CAVE – EARLY MORNING

Mavis and Kat watch Sam and Duke on a screen as they talk on the Rouge, Sam argues, “Duke, it’s just not a good time. We’re going through a rough patch and you’re not making it any easier by complaining.”

Duke argues, “You’re the one withholding.”

Sam shakes her head annoyed, “I have to go preach now.” She says and huffing leaves the room, “About Faith of all things.”

In the cave Kat turns to Mavis, “He’ll be taken care of.”

Mavis nods, “Yes he will.” She chuckles.

She turns to him guilt all over her face, “Mac, you’re home.” The woman says.

INT. CHURCH - DAY

At the Good Shepard Church Sam preaches walking in front of the pews, looking at all the people, she continues her sermon saying, “Abraham had so much faith that when God told him to sacrifice his only son he was willing to do it. He knew that God would provide, somehow fulfil his promise that he’d be the father of many nations. He didn’t have to sacrifice his son, for in his faith, his wiliness to follow God’s command he was saved. The book of Hebrews in the First chapter verse 1 describes faith, ‘Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.’ She looks to Duke sitting in the pew and then scans the congregation.

He nods acknowledging that he should have faith, even when he can’t see it.

She continues, “Even if things don’t look like they’re going to work out we can believe they are…that’s faith. I had an experience once where I was sitting on the beach watching some little kids play with their sand castle-“

EXT. CHURCH - DAY

Outside the church, after the service Sam says goodbye to Vince and Dave as they complement her on her sermon, “We need faith now.” Dave says.

Vince argues, “Why do we need faith when we have hope.”

Dave and Vince leave bickering. Sam chuckles.

As Duke closes the church doors the man who was with Mac’s wife, holding his shirt in his hand only his pants on, comes up to them. The man turns to Duke and Sam, “Duke I need your help?”

Duke recognizes the man, “Freddy, what’s going on?” Freddy looks away from where he came, “He’s after me.” Duke looks to where Freddy looks, “Mac?” Mac there waves awkwardly bye and leaves.

Vince steps forward, “They’re probably up to something. We just don’t know what.”

Dave nods, “They could be troubling more people.”

Nathan sighs, “Do you have any more information about them from the records?”

Dave and Vince speak about how they’ve looked but there was a flood so some of the records aren’t there. What about Daniel?”

Audrey puts up her hand, “No, we need to talk to you about Freddy and what happened this morning.”

Tears stream down her cheeks, “We’re going to work it out.”

Nathan shows Audrey the bedroom doesn’t have any bullet holes in it like Freddy said.

James sneaks up behind as Duke pleads, “Sam, please come out.”

Sam yells, “put the gun down first.”

James nocks Duke over the head. Sam sees Duke fall on the ground. She gets up and James asks, “What’s going on?”

“Duke thought we were having an affair.” Dwight says.

          “Are you?” James asks.

          “No.” Sam shakes her head.

Dwight says, “I’d never.”

Sam points to Freddy out in the main room about to speak when James interrupts, “Right, you’d only have an affair with me.”

Sam chuckles, “Freddy brought in a trouble.”

Dwight solemnly says, “It’s contagious, you’re immune so you’re in charge.”

Abe is a little worried, “Are you two alright?”

Vince huffs, “We’re fine.”

Dave asks, “So why do you want to know?”

Abe nervously says, “I have a business date…”

Vince hisses, like that’s a bad idea. “You don’t want to be in business with Ginger.”

“She’s a hellion. Ever since her husband left her and she lost custody of the kids she’s been bitter.”

Looking only at Vince Abe asks, “Why did she loose custody of the kids?”

Dave jumps in bragging he knows, “Her trouble. She can’t touch them without spreading boils.”

Vince shoves Dave, “He was talking to me.”

Audrey tells them, “you’re acting like children. Stop it.”

She turns to Nathan, “Is this how the trouble acts or are they just being their normal selves.”

Nathan whispers, “I can’t tell.”

Dave and Vince stare at Audrey, and see Audrey upset with them, “How could you do it?” She asks, “I’m going to make sure you pay for what you’ve done.”

Dave pleads, “Audrey we thought we were doing the right thing.”

Worried he’ll shoot she drops to the floor and scurries behind the desk.

Nathan stands there staring at where Audrey was, “Don’t shoot me. Audrey…” Nathan shakes.

Audrey looks around panicked about what to do. She pulls all the papers, and the old phone off the desk to distract Nathan. It doesn’t work. She starts to cry, “Nathan, please don’t…”

Daniel says, “It doesn’t affect everyone the same. It’s about faith, attacking the things that are doubted.”

James says wounded, “Dwight doubts that I care about this town.”

Audrey doesn’t pay attention as she walks up to Daniel, “How do you know?”

Daniel looks at Audrey she says, “You’re a terrible father. You abandoned me again.”

James tells him, “You couldn’t keep your promise. I didn’t want to know about my life, that’s why I had my memories erased.”

Kat answers, “They must have figured it out.”

Mavis annoyed says, “I thought you deleted their file on Mac.”

Kat assures her, “I did.”

Mavis is annoyed further, “We could have gotten to Nathan if we’d had cameras in the Harold and known he was vulnerable.”

Jeremy responds from the shadows, “They have anti-surveillance precautions.”

Mavis angrily orders, “Get around them. Stand outside the door. I don’t care I want to know what is happening to them every minute.” She storms out of site.

Exasperated they have rewound too far Sam starts from the end and rewinds manually. She stops the video as Duke clings to her. Duke is crying clinging to Sam, saying, “Don’t leave me” Sam, Vince, and Dave all laugh.

Seeing Sam say she loves him and beat him up they laugh harder.

Duke scratches his head embarrassed, “Okay, I don’t need to see anymore.” Sam leans up to him and kisses him endeared.

Dave wants to go back further, he takes the controls yet as he rewinds a smidge, she grabs them back not wanting him to have them.

The video stops so they hear Sam say, “I’m pregnant.”

Duke looks to her astonished.

Dave congratulates them but Vince knows better, “I think we should…” He pulls his brother out of the room, objecting to his objections, and closes the door.

Duke looks to Sam with dread, “You’re pregnant.”

Sam says, “I might be I’m not sure. I skipped a day when we were ship napped and it would have been the right time so I’ve been off them.”

Duke makes the connection, “That’s why you’ve been…”

Sam nods.

Duke annoyed says, “Why didn’t you tell me?”

Sam looks away, “because I don’t know if I am and if I am we have some decisions to make.”

Duke argues, “If I’m supposed to tell you everything you can’t keep things from me.”

Sam stares at Duke giving him a look of smugness, “Duke, really? Do we really want to do a tit for tat because I think I’m owed one.”

Duke sighs and nods.

Sam steps up to him placing her arm on him, “Let’s not have a slate, let alone a clean one.”

Duke sighs nodding, slowly turning towards her he hugs her and looks off into the distance worried he’s going to lose her. She holds him close.

DWIGHT’S OFFICE - NIGHT

Late at night in Dwight’s office Dwight’s sits at his desk with Jeremy’s father in a chair across from him.

“You’re sure?” Dwight asks as if he’s asked before.

Jeremy’s father nods, “Yes, Abe told me himself. James agreed to help him kill the troubled.”

Dwight sighs the air is full of tension, “When I put you in with the Church group I thought you could talk Abe out of what he was doing so if we needed him…I didn’t imagine I’d find this out. Oh James…” He puts his hand to his head, not sure how he’s going to deal with this.

James comes up to the open door, he doesn’t see Jeremy’s father but looks to Dwight, “You wanted to see me.”

Dwight nods, James enters saying, “I don’t want to take your job as Chief. I’m perfectly happy being cleaner and working as a cop so you don’t need to worry.”

Jeremy’s father looks to Dwight. Dwight embarrassed nods, “Yeah, I know.”

Jeremy’s father raises his eyebrows not believing Dwight.

Dwight directs James to sit in the chair next to Jeremy’s father.

James turns and sees Jeremy’s father in the seat.

Dwight introduces them, “James this is Ben”.

Jeremy’s father, Ben, cannot seem to look at James. Shame is over his face. “Did you talk to Abe at the Cumberland house?”

James nods, “Yeah, I did actually, I wanted to talk to you about that.”

He looks to Ben, Dwight says, “You can say anything to me in front of him. We’re old friends, two x-guard members.”

James nods, “Okay, I think we can use him, Abe. Making him an enemy isn’t going to help us it will just rile up the Church group. But we can control this by being in contact with him, which I agreed to do.”

Dwight sighs relieved. Ben smiles, “You sure you don’t want to take his job. That’s exactly what Dwight wanted to do with me.” Ben tries to look at James and darts his glance away. “I should go.” Ben says.

Dwight objects, “No, I can still use you, as a middle man.” Ben shakes his head looking to the ground, unable to look at James.

James notices, “You can’t even look at me. Why?” Ben looks right at him, “I’m the reason, why no one remembers what happened to you the day you were killed.”

James looks to Ben astonished.
